Upon creating the first household, I wasn't thinking much about posting regarding the game, family, or otherwise. So the screenshots I took were few and not posed very well. I'm working on better ingame cinematography though!
So, like a lot of us Sims fans, I had to start out with making myself and Sideshow. I created our likenesses, connected us as spouses, and stuck us in a cheapish house (that came fully furnished, unlike our real house). I also started us as young adults. For one, in real life I think we still fall in the young adult category, but also, I wanted a good amount of time to play….
So much time, in fact, that I moved the slider to “long lifespan.” Needless to say, this kept me quite occupied for the next week.
Let's meet the family, shall we?
Generation 1: Darcy and Brian Zalewski
Meet Darcy and Brian Zalewski in their starter home.
Ahh, such a newly wed couple, ain't they? She's thinking about him as he stands before her, telling her how awesome she is.
They spend some time getting settled into the new house. Brian is a funny, family orientated guy, who also happens to be a computer whiz.
Darcy is intelligent, friendly, funny, and an avid reader.
Not long after moving into their new home, Darcy starts her journalism career while Brian starts his science career. Starting out as a test subject is difficult for him, as there are many accidents that happen in the lab.
Darcy and Brian begin to save some money as they purchase upgrades for their home. Brian, being family orientated, talks more and more about starting their family. Darcy, despite trying to claw her way up the journalism ladder, is excited at this prospect as well.
Due to being young newly weds, it didn't take long before Brian and Darcy woohoo'd a new addition to the family. Darcy and Brian were quite excited to give birth to a little girl. They named her Aerissa. Aerissa was a delightful baby. She rarely cried!
The days seemed to fly past as Aerissa grew up into a toddler. She quickly learned to walk, talk, and use the potty chair. She also displayed an artistic side as she constantly wished to bang on this toy xylophone. What started out sounding like random pounding soon turned into some short, yet beautifully melodic rhythms.
After Darcy was certain she could trust leaving young Aerissa home with a babysitter, she returned to work at the bottom of the barrel. She worked hard to make connections and soon her boss began to recognize her efforts. Besides hitting the streets for interviews, Darcy also wrote in her spare time at home, further honing her skills while earning some extra cash.
To be continued next Sims Saturday!
Good thing I was wearing my fire-proof boxers that day.
Awesome writing, thoroughly enjoyed the story so far. Can hardly wait to see the other chapters.
Just one question, as I’m not very familiar with the Sims: do you both play on the same game at the same time, each developing his own character? How’s the interaction between different players possible, if it is possible in any way?
Flame on! rotfl…
@Sideshow – Yes, thank goodness!
@Keli – Hahaha Sad part is, that was not the last time he came home like that…
@Ydraisa – I can only control 1 household at a time in Sims 3. In the previous Sims games, I could switch between households whenever I wanted, and often had to do that to help the neighborhood progress.
With Sims 3, the neighborhood continues to progress without me playing them. So, different people will hook up, grow up, move, have kids, change jobs, etc.
Unfortunately, there isn’t interaction between players. Perhaps they’ll try something like the Sims Online again, but I’m not sure. Sideshow plays Sims 3 as well, but he has his own neighborhood and families to play on his computer. He did start out with “us” and his family has turned out to be something quite different through out the generations!
Actually, I could restart “us” and get a different outcome.. a lot of that depending on children conceived etc. It’s a fun single player game and has a pretty neat community. The game (and community site) provide great ways to create and share stories. I haven’t tried any videos yet, but with the game comes the capability to record game play.
Thanks for the clarifications Syrana.
I can’t stop wondering how nice it would be to have a Sims like game where members of the same family could play in the same neighborhood at once.
If my wife, me and our 7 yo son would be able to share the same environment then I’d be most interested. As it is now, my passion lays in the interaction with other human controlled characters, so single player games no longer interest me.
As a suggestion for your blog, if I may, I notice you run it on the WordPress platform. It may be helpful to your visitors if you’d have the “subscribe to comments” feature enabled, letting them know when a post where they commented has new replies.
@Ydraisa – No problem on the clarification. 🙂
Sims is definitely a different kind of game, which can be a lot of fun. Although, it’s not for everyone. All depends on what you like. Sometimes I enjoy a break from interacting with player controlled characters and have fun controlling my household. Sometimes it’s fun to let them kind of run around as they please and see what choices the AI makes for them and their interactions with the other Sims.
Regarding the comment feed, it is enabled and can be found at the bottom of the page under “Meta.” Perhaps we should look at having it at the top too, just as the post feed can be found at the top and bottom.
